Massage Courses

If you are interested in becoming a professional massage therapist you will need to do a 2 year diploma in "Therapeutic Massage Therapy". This will include Swedish massage, Sports massage, pathology, anatomy and physiology, trigger point therapy, outcomes based massage, and community service, amongst other subjects. It is also law that you will have to register with AHPCSA before you can legally work as a massage therapist in South Africa. So, the best course of action is to contact the AHPCSA and ask them for a list of recognised massage schools (the list is very short at the moment). Don't be fooled into thinking that schools that offer an 8 week course in sports massage are going to be recognised.

All the relevant legislation and contact details for the AHPCSA are on their website at

If you are just interested in learning some massage techniques for yourself at home, then feel free to contact me.
